Neigbourhood I – Square Marie-Louise

A November walk around Square Marie-Louise

Square Marie-Louise doesn’t belong any more to Saint-Josse-ten-Noode. Together with Square Gutemberg, Avenue Palmerston, Square Ambiorix and Square Marguerite, it forms the Quartier des Squares.

But many citizens of SJTN visit and enjoy this square and it seems they feel it is still a part of Saint Josse.

Square Marie-Louise is a beautiful square with a lake in the middle and an ensemble of old houses surrounding it. Behind the houses you can see the European Commission’s headquarter, the modern Berlaymont building.

Until 1855, the Quartier Des Squares and most of the Quartier Léopold (which form together Brussels’ European neighbourhood) belonged to SJTN.
